CHILDREN’S BOOK CORNER (Cammille Go)

I’ve recently read a book titled Dear Terry by Joyce Voelker. This book is about friendship. Now you may ask how this story is about friendship. This book tells about an 11-year-old girl, Joyce, (who hates boys) writing to Terry. Joyce lives in Ohio. She thinks Terry’s name is short for Theresa (a girl’s name). The scary thing is that Terry’s name actually stands for Terrance and that is a boy’s name. Terry lives in Vermont.

Over time, Terry and Joyce become good friends and they communicate with each other through letter writing. Terry prays for Joyce to help her with all the troublesome things that happen to her. Joyce does the same with Terry. When Joyce’s teacher asks her to study about a state, she chooses Vermont. Terry and his family are going to Ohio to meet Joyce and told her in a letter. After receiving the letter, Joyce asks Terry to send a picture of her. Terry finally confesses in a letter that he isn’t a girl, but a boy. Will Joyce ask God to continue her friendship? Will Joyce try her best to remove her hatred for boys? Read this exciting book to figure out.
